The Classic 4 Days Inca Trail, is one of the most famous and scenic hiking routes in the world. Also known as the “Inca Trail”, this ancient route was built by the Incas and connects the lost city of Machu Picchu with the city of Cusco in Peru.

The Inca Trail traverses a stunning variety of landscapes, from rugged mountains to dense tropical forests, and passes numerous Inca archaeological sites. During the tour, hikers can enjoy spectacular views of the Andes and experience the rich history and culture of the region.

The full Inca Trail route usually takes around four days, although shorter tour options are also available. Hikers walk through a variety of terrain, including original stone steps built by the Incas, elevated mountain passes, and trails lined with lush vegetation.

One of the highlights of the Inca Trail is arriving at Machu Picchu at dawn on the fourth day. Hikers usually enter the famous archaeological site through the Puerta del Sol, which offers stunning views of the Machu Picchu citadel nestled high in the mountains.

This Trail is one of the most famous and incredible trekking routes in the world. The Classic 4 Days Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the examples of Inca engineering, a complex system of impressive roads with approximately 40,000 kilometers, built by the Incas more than 500 years ago. These trails were built through the deserts, mountains and jungles that extend from southern Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, northern and central Chile and the northwestern part of Argentina. The Inca trail begins in a typical Andean region and ends in a jungle region passing through cloud forests, snowy mountains, bridges and tunnels. Taking this walk is a unique experience, it is an opportunity to go back in time and live four indescribable days… remember that the Inca Trail is not only for the feet, but also for the mind.

Itinerary

DAY 01 – CUSCO – KM 82 – WAYLLABAMBA.

We will pick you up from your hotel between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., then we continue our trip by bus to the town of Ollantaytambo, which is in the sacred valley of the Incas, here we will have a 30-minute stop to have breakfast, then we continue the Travel for 40 more minutes, to the Piskacucho sector (kilometer 82) where the trail begins. here We will carry out document control and government permission it is necessary to show the original passport (if you paid a student fee, you need to show the student card.
To start the Inca trail (2720m / 8923ft), we will cross the Urubamba River and follow the route to the right. The first day is relatively easy (a warm-up) along the way we will be able to observe a variety of flora and fauna in the area, as well as different Inca constructions, the ‘Huillca Raccay’ fortress, the Inca city of “Llactapata”, the Urubamba Mountain Range which divides the jungle and the Andes and the beautiful mountain W’akayWillca'(5860m/19225ft), known in the books as Veronica.
Our first camp will be near the town of Wayllabamba (3000m/9842 feet) in the valley of the same name. The temperature at night is generally around 10°C.

Day 02 – WAYLLABAMBA – PACAYMAYO.

The day starts early with an energetic breakfast at the Wayllabamba camp. Then, hikers begin the ascent toward Warmiwañusca, also known as Dead Woman’s Pass, which is the highest point of the Inca Trail, located about 4,200 meters above sea level. This section of the hike is steep and demanding, and can be physically and mentally challenging for many hikers.
After a rest here, we begin the descent to the Pacaymayo camp (3550 11646 meters above sea level).
On the way to the pass, we will be able to see a lot of hummingbirds and other birds. Also, we have the time to appreciate an incredible variety of endemic plants and trees such as the Qeuña ‘‘Polilepys tree, which grow in the amazing cloud forest located at 3650/11972 m! The Temperature in this camp is around 6º C during the nights.

DAY 03: PACAYMAYO – WIÑAYWAYNA

The third day of the classic 4 days Inca Trail is another exciting and challenging leg of the trek, offering hikers a variety of stunning landscapes and fascinating archaeological sites. As in the previous days, the third day begins early with a nutritious breakfast at the camp. Hikers prepare for another day of adventure as they hit the road before dawn.
The day begins with a gradual ascent towards the Runkurakay Pass, which is a mountain pass located at an altitude of approximately 3,900 meters above sea level.

Afterwards we will begin a descent from the pass towards the Inca archaeological site of ‘Sayacmarca’. After exploring this site, the route continues through a magnificent cloud forest and we begin a new climb to the third highest point (3680 12073 meters above sea level). The scenery on this part of the route and the views from the third pass are exceptionally charming. Here we will visit the archaeological site of ‘Phuyupatamarca’ (which means ‘City of Clouds’), it is located a few minutes walk from the third pass and after visiting, we continue walking along a steep descent through the cloud forest, towards inti visit the Inca agricultural site and reach our camp at Wiñay Wayna (2680m/8792 feet). A short distance from this camp is the Inca site of the same name ‘Wiñay Wayna’ (‘Forever Young’). Even if you are tired after a short rest you can visit this place.

  • Difficulty: moderate.

DAY 04 – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO.

This last day we will have breakfast very early at 4.00 a.m.). And then we will go to the control which opens at 5:30 in the morning, from this point, we will start the walk at 01:30. hrs in the direction of ‘Inti Punku’ (‘gate of the sun’) (2730 m/8792 feet). From this place you will have the first views of the city of Machu Picchu (2400m / 7873ft). After some time there, we will walk the last part of the route to the place where you can take the classic photo (guardian’s house). Finally, we will leave the city, to leave the backpacks at the last checkpoint, use the toilets and to visit the city of Machu Picchu.
The Guide will offer you a visit (approximately 2 hours) where you will visit the main places of the Inca city. Once the visit is completed, the bus service is included to go down to the town of Aguas Calientes, here we will have a restaurant for lunch (optional) and receive your train ticket to return to the city of Cusco.

The train service that is included in all tours (Expedition to Ollanta) can be from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., depending on space availability, then we will have the bus service to the city of Cusco.

  • If you want to stay one more night in Aguas Calientes, you must notify us in advance so we can organize your hotel and modify the return train service.
  • The camps mentioned in the program are referential since it depends on the time and date of the reservation and the availability of the Ministry of Culture-Cusco
